SUMMARY:5 ways to take your city's zero waste journey to the next level - A conversation with Gabriele Folli
DESCRIPTION:Located in Northern Italy\, in the region of Emilia Romagna – one of the top waste producers among Italian regions – the city of Parma\, with almost 200.000 inhabitants\, is a vivid example of a successful transition from traditional waste to resource management and zero waste implementation. \n\n\nStarting from a separate collection system of around 45% and a high rate in terms of waste generation\, in just 4 years\, the City Council\, alongside its citizens\, achieved significant results: \n\nTotal waste generation reduced by 15%\nSeparate collection from 48.5% to 81%\nResidual waste rate decreased by 58%\nReduction in the waste bill for citizens\nIncrease in the number of jobs connected to waste management.\n\nGabriele Folli\, at the time appointed Deputy Mayor for the Environment and Mobility in the Municipality of Parma\, took part in Parma’s transition\, focusing his mandate on the implementation of a waste collection system based on zero waste principles\, a kerbside separate collection and pay-as-you-throw billing systems in the whole community. \nDuring this 0ne-hour free webinar\, we will be sitting down with Gabriele to talk about what actions had been put in place in Parma and what strategies are currently carried out to boost Parma’s transition\, offering 5 useful tips on how to bring your city’s zero waste journey to the next level. \n\n\nIn this one-hour webinar\, you will learn: \n\n5 key solutions to accelerate your city’s circular transition;\nHow a city with almost 200.000 inhabitants\, like Parma\, managed to completely change its waste collection system in less than 5 years\, reaching 80% separate collection rate;\nThe main successful zero waste strategies currently in place in Parma\, as well as their main challenges and how they have overcome them.\n\nParticipants will get an opportunity to ask questions to the speaker during the webinar. \nYour data is going to be treated in accordance with our privacy policy.

SUMMARY:Transitioning a nation to zero waste by 2050 - A conversation with Dr Andy Rees OBE
DESCRIPTION:In this one-off special\, we will be joined by Dr Andy Rees OBE\, Head of Waste Strategy in the Welsh Government’s Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy Division. \nDr Andy Rees has played a leading role in the creation of Wales’ pioneering ‘Beyond Recycling’ strategy\, which sets Wales’s ambitious goals of becoming zero waste\, with net-zero carbon emissions\, by the year 2050. \nOver the past decade\, Wales has become one of Europe’s highest-performing countries in terms of recycling. This has been based upon a door to door separate collection system that prioritises quality and community engagement\, as captured in the Zero Waste Cities’ recent case study on Newport City Council. \nDuring this one hour webinar\, we will be sitting down with Andy to understand what policies and measures the Welsh government have outlined as crucial to reaching these goals by 2050. Within the discussion\, we will be delving into a few specific subjects in greater detail: \n\nWhat has been behind Wales’ highly successful recycling programme nationally;\nThe recent moratorium announced by the Welsh government banning the building of any new waste-to-energy plants over the size of 10MW\, and what this means for waste incineration nationally;\nHow the Welsh government views the relationship between its zero waste\, circular economy and zero carbon emissions goals;\nWhat are the biggest challenges and priorities facing the Welsh government today in its ambition to become zero waste and carbon neutral by 2050.\n\nParticipants will get an opportunity to ask questions to Dr Rees during the webinar. \nYour data is going to be treated in accordance with our privacy policy.

SUMMARY:ZW Live! Webinar - Are we entering an age of decomissioning in Europe?
DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, we have seen a number of developments that would suggest decision-makers recognise that waste incineration is incompatible with long-term climate goals. Yet does this match with the reality on the ground? Are we still living through a time of waste incineration within a linear economy\, or are we entering an age of decommissioning? \nThis Zero Waste Europe‘s webinar will go into greater depth to answer these key questions: \n\nWhy is waste incineration incompatible with a circular economy and how is this becoming more recognised?\nIs waste incineration compatible with the increasing need for and adoption of climate supportive\, carbon-neutral policies?\nWhat is happening at the European level to prohibit funding and support for increasing incineration capacity?\nWhat are the transition strategies available for municipalities to help move away from incineration?\n\nUnfortunately\, the webinar platform has a maximum capacity of 100 virtual seats. Therefore\, to watch the webinar for free\, attendance on Zoom will be done on a first-come\, first-served basis\, meaning that only the first 100 people will be able to join on Zoom. However\, if you are not part of the first 100 who join at the start of the webinar\, then you can still follow the webinar live on Zero Waste Europe’s YouTube channel. \nWe will ensure questions posed on our Youtube channel are still relayed to the speakers. \nThe speakers’ presentations will be available for free in the following days. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused. \nYour data is going to be treated in accordance with Zero Waste Europe’s privacy policy.
